In the Hoop Project Club Summer 2025

This summer at Turtleworks, our In the Hoop Project classes were a place where students of different levels practiced meaningful skills together, connecting, learning, and having fun in the process.

From our very first class in June to our last in August, each Friday evening was filled with hands-on projects, good times, and small but important achievements. We started with Father’s Day appliqué T-shirts, giving students the chance to learn how to hoop, trim threads, cut and remove backing, and help operate an embroidery machine. It was a great opportunity for students to practice fine motor work and demonstrate and share their growing skills.

Over the weeks, we worked on a wide variety of creative projects, such ask making bookmarks, sewing a teddy bear plushie, learning to cross stitch, and creating a decorative travel tag. Along the way, students practiced not only their crafting skills but also developed patience, attention to detail, and hands-on skills.

Every week, we ended with a fun and engaging game, creating moments for students to connect and support one another. Throughout the weeks, everyone bonded with games of Hot Potato, balloons, or number games.

One highlight of the summer was our vocational training. Together, the class folded and packed over forty blankets with speed and care. We also handled finished products like hats and backpacks. During this process, everyone stepped up into their own roles, each contributing their unique strengths to the team’s success.

At Turtleworks, we believe in going “slow and steady, strong and ready.” This summer reminded us that when students feel supported in a new environment, they will quickly adapt, growing into capable, confident individuals ready for their next challenge.
